Battlebike is blingin’

Like any good journalist I’m going to cover the 5 W’s in this little piece.

Who: Me
What: Battlebike
When: About twenty minutes ago
Where: Somewhere in NW Portland
Why: Because Battlebike (what my $60 Craigslist ’89 Stumpjumper will from here on be known as – it’s like I bought the $40 fenders I’d been looking at and they threw in a bike for an extra $20) needed a little bling

Pictures are worth 1000 words, read ‘em and weep.

BEFORE:

Battlebikes before picture, just another sad, unloved 89 Stumpjumper

BEFORE: just another sad, nondescript and unloved '89 Stumpjumper

 AFTER:

AFTER: From zero to hero, Battlebike is a phoenix rising from the ashes and strutting his stuff

And if you’re a kid from the 80s that rode an XR you’ve got to appreciate the feel of the Ourys!  Of course if you’re a kid of the 80s you’ll appreciate the hologram sticker they give you even more.

ALF, GI Joe, Transformers, hologram stickers

ALF, GI Joe, Transformers and this terrible photo of a hologram sticker

Battlebike is also paying homage to the Trek Soho in his own little reduce/reuse/recycle way.

Battlebike: just like the Trek Soho, just $900 cheaper, smaller tires, out of true wheels (aka the pimp limp), a greasy ass chain and friction shifting. But yeah, otherwise just like it.
